Round-leaved sundew

With well-rounded leaves giving the impression they are pricked with fluorescent tentacles, the round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) is one of the rare carnivorous plants present in Quebec. Its shiny appearance, let’s say catchy, suggests it is perpetually dewy. This phenomenon is due to the curious viscous mucilaginous liquid which it manufactures to stick then digest its prey; fabulous and unexplored kitchen ingredient that is plant mucilage, that of the round-leaved sundew has the ability to curdle milk. Who knows, maybe one day, the idea of making a new dairy product using a vegetable rennet made of carnivorous plants will come along…
